Zodiac Constellation Luminary
This beautiful ceramic luminary featuring the zodiac constellations is handcrafted in a family workshop in the community of San Juan de Oriente, Nicaragua. There are two variations, each with 6 zodiac constellations represented. Each luminary is created out of local clay, turned on a kick wheel, hand-painted, and wood-fired in a beehive-shaped kiln. For use with tea light candle or string of electric lights (not included).

Care
Hand-painted items:
To clean, simply dust with a dry cloth. Do not use cleaning products or water. We recommend any hand painted products be kept out of direct sunlight to prevent fading. *Hand-painted items are for decorative use only and are not food safe.
Planters:
Soak your terracotta planters for several hours or overnight. The natural, porous clay tends to absorb a good amount of water (stealing the water from your plants). After soaking they are ready for planting!

Amy and her husband, Michael, founded Women of the Cloud Forest back in 2000 while living in Monteverde, Costa Rica. They taught classes at a community art center for women, learned about the concept of fair trade, and perfected their Spanish over many cups of coffee.
They shared the Costa Rican artisans’ creations with wonderful customers at fairs, church sales, and school events over the years. Their team grew to include two good friends, Marla and Sue, who have helped Women of the Cloud Forest continue to expand, selling wholesale to over 500 stores in the US and Canada.
Over the years, they have expanded their work and concentrate mostly in Nicaragua but also work directly with several cooperatives in Ecuador, Peru and Nepal.
In addition to providing countless stable jobs and income, Women of the Cloud Forest supports their artisan partners with no-interest loans for home building, donations of trees for reforestation and energy efficient eco-stoves.
