This handcrafted trivet in natural seasonal colors can be used as a functional item for protecting your tabletop or can be used as a decorative accent. This beautiful handwoven piece was created by women artisans living in Western Uganda. Make a statement on your wall or propped up on your shelf with this unique accent piece.

Artisan & Product Details

Maadili Collective works directly with a cooperative of basket weavers in Western Uganda that are masters of both intricate weaving and the creation of natural dyes.

Weavers hand make each basket from home while tending to other household duties. Baskets can take days to weeks to complete with artists weaving 3 or so hours per day while balancing other responsibilities.

Colorful baskets are a unique, bold mix of natural and AZO free dyes - Natural dyes are made from various plant materials grown in artisan’s villages. The women grow, harvest and make all the natural dyes which take a great deal of knowledge and skill to produce.

The hand-dyed raffia is twisted and wrapped around coils of banana fibers, creating structure and intricate designs.

Care

Handwoven baskets should be kept dry. To clean, dust with a lint-free cloth.

ABOUT MAADILI COLLECTIVE

Maadili Collective works directly with a cooperative of 400 women in Western Uganda. With a mission to help vulnerable women by providing opportunities for income, the Basket Cooperative sells crafts both locally and internationally. In addition to earning a fair income, women are provided an opportunity for education on other concerns for the betterment of their families - personal health, family planning, hygiene and HIV/Aids.
