Madirishya Basket
Celebrate artistry, meaning, and resilience with the Madirishya Basket, a limited-edition design created by refugee artisans in honor of World Refugee Day.
“Madirishya,” meaning “The Windows” in Kinyarwanda, was designed by Asinati N. and her cooperative, IGZ (Igisubizo), based in the Kigeme Refugee Camp. The cooperative’s name means “solutions,” reflecting their shared mission to create opportunity and strength within their community. This design was developed through a collaborative workshop in 2023, bringing Asinati’s vision to life as part of the HOPE Collection—each piece a labor of love and expression of hope.
Handwoven from locally sourced sisal and sweetgrass, this 12” wide by 3” high basket is hand-dyed in a mix of purple, white, and brown tones, creating a soft, organic pattern that feels both grounded and expressive. A built-in loop on the back allows for easy hanging, making it ideal as wall art, a fruit basket, or a meaningful accent piece in any space.
Dimensions: 12" diameter x 3" height
Colors: Brown, lavender, and white
Materials: Sisal and sweetgrass
Includes hanging loop
